Upcycle a plastic bunny topper into a gift
Supplies Needed
You know those tubes of Easter candies that come with a plastic bunny on top? The ones filled with M&Ms or Hershey’s Kisses? Save the bunny lids and you can make a cute candy dish or gift for next year! Here’s how I made a cute bunny jar.
- Plastic bunny toppers from tubes of Easter candy
- jars with lids (Please upcycle from your kitchen recycling. Salsa, queso, and spaghetti sauce jars would all work well!)
- Paint that bonds with plastic (I used a spray paint for plastic, but you could also try a multi-surface, acrylic paint IF it says it works on plastics)
- A box cutter (scissors might also work)
- E6000 glue
- super glue
- Cut off the bunny from the “screw” part of the topper. You want just the bunny part. I used a box knife. (If you’re a kid who somehow found this blog, then make sure to have an adult do it, please!)

2. Glue the bunny to the lid of a jar. I used a salsa/dip jar after removing the label (ran it through the dishwasher) and removing any remaining adhesive with hand sanitizer and a paper towel. I used E6000 glue to secure the bunny to the jar lid, putting just a bit of super glue on it, too, since E6000 takes awhile to set.

3. Paint the jar lid with bunny attached. I used a gold spray paint that bonds to plastic. You could also use a craft paint for plastic and brush it on. After I spray painted the bunnies, there were a few spots where the shape of the bunnies caused the paint to slide off before it could bond/dry. I touched those up by gently brushing the bare spots with some matte finish Mod Podge and re-spraying them. You might also start with a layer of Mod Podge as a primer if you’re worried the paint won’t stick! (Ignore the photo frames in the video. They are for a different craft that I’ll share about another day! I was just trying to finish all of the spray painting at once.)
4. Fill the jar with cookies, a small Easter gift, candies for a candy bar, homemade soaps or playdough, etc. Use your imagination!
